Today's double income families have created an overindulgent society and prices that just don't seem to stop climbing. Not every household has such an abundance of discretionary income, but for those that do; overspending can mean an overabundance. They will have so much stuff they just can't function. They will buy the same thing again and again because they have so much stuff they can't find what they need. They will also buy several variations of same thing - like 5 different kids of boots or in multiple colours - or spend money as a pastime. Some folks have a real spending issue.
A quick fix is to literally freeze your credit card in a Ziplock to prevent impulse purchases. Longer term, a deeper dig will likely reveal a need to fill an empty spot inside ... potentially the real root of the problem.
